Lay of the Land:

Mountain Property:  The property has road access with or without snow and 2000 acres (about 2 miles by 1.5 miles) private land sits at about 8000' elevation, perfect for elk and deer. You will have exclusive access to the property for your group.  It has timber including junipers and aspen, scrub oak, parks, a pond and a creek and it's adjacent to national forest so public hunters will be pushing game to you.  It has a place for horses or bring ATVs but best not to be driving around on them as you will spook game off the property.  It's best to use them for game retrieval.  It can take 4 to 6 hunters. The area surrounding you in most directions is the Uncompahgre National Forest.  You can park your horses, ATV or truck here and pick your place where you want to hunt every morning.  Bring your maps, GPS and compass because this is a self-guided hunt.  Elk are bedded and secure where they are safe mid-day.  Snow is common depending on what season you hunt.  Snow is your friend after September because it makes the elk move and are more exposed.  Warm weather makes the elk bed during the day when you are hunting so they will be there but makes them difficult to find.  You may bring a trailer or piitch a tent on the property.

Party Size (min/max for booking):

Mountain property for 4 minimum to 6 max.

Mode of Travel:

Drive to property. Recommend ATVs for getting to/from camp or game retrieval only so as not to spook game. Horses ok too.

Animal Quality:

Elk up to 300” and mule deer from 140”-190”.

Success Rate:

Success rate is not tracked for DIY hunts.

Hunt Difficulty:

Medium to difficult on higher ground depending on your ability.
