About the Hunt Provider:

Welcome to where the hills meet the plains, where antelope are everywhere, even during antelope season. Where the mule Deer can disappear from the hot sun but return in droves and the elk come to visit just in time for hunting season. Our hunts are semi-guided on 3,500 acres of mostly private land hunts with landlocked BLM. Arrive at least 1 day early so we can show you the property, fences and game. We have a limited number of hunter for every season. Because of the ground our hunts are minimal impact unless you want to make it otherwise. You will know how many other hunters there will be, and you will be expected to cooperate and respect other hunters, as they will with you. If a hunter has a tag that permits private and public land hunting, he has 4,000 to 5,000 contiguous acres to hunt!In many cases the public ground is between two different ranches or encompassed by a ranch. In all of his hunts the goal is to do everything possible to make you successful.

Lay of the Land:

In GMU003 the main property is 4 square miles of 2500 acres of fenced private land with no cross fences. It is surrounded by thousands of acres of BLM on all sides. There is also an addition satellite property of 320 acres, minimal pressure, with water and of course deer, elk, and antelope. The 5 ranches have land locked public and interlocked land that makes up around 10,000 acres total. It has at least 7 water sources year around, mostly ponds and catch basins. The ground is mostly rolling sage, on sand hills with a mixture of small natural hay fields when the sage has been removed. The south end climbs up to a road and everything is below that level. The spring water flows from north to south through the draws, some drying out and other emptying into different ponds.

The habitat is great for mule deer and antelope in August through November, then they migrate to lower ground for winter. The elk use the land basically traveling from North to South across the property from the Bears Ears herd which numbers 60,000 traveling 27 miles west to Galina’s Rim, 30 miles as the crow flies to the west and down at only 5000 feet in altitude. Part of this 60,000 elk herd cross through this property but even with the excellent condition of the grass they usually do not stay on the property more than 24 hours, depending on hunting pressure as the herds pass through.

Elk hunting is all about easy shooting with no trees and a good visual advantage which makes completing the harvest easier and low impact hunting.

The deer and antelope are quite easy to hunt since they are in the prime habitat during the hunting seasons. For the deer, snow and harsh weather does enhance your odds for larger animals, and the later in the season the more active the rut is but either way everyone goes home happy.

The property abounds with 2-track roads and high points, both are assets for the Safari Style including driving, glass, spot and stalk or just glassing from a high point for deer, elk or antelope.

In GMU004 there is 1225 acres of mixed habitat. The land has a creek and irrigated hayfields that attract all wildlife and big game. There are some trees, but the hayfield in the bottom open to sage and scrub habitat as the property travels east to higher altitudes. This property is into the foothills and the migration of deer and elk to lower ground as winter approaches. There is also a local herd of deer and antelope. The water is always an attractant in a dry habitat like this high plateau desert habitat. The local deer begin being met with mule deer migrants as the days cool in late October, but the elk are later, having the snow in the higher altitudes push them westward across the sage covered sand hills.

There are roads throughout the property to retrieve your game.
